Haydock preview: Night Raider could prove too good in the Temple Stakes at Haydock on Saturday

With the clock ticking down to Royal Ascot, the attention of the Weekend Winners team turns to Haydock this Saturday and a quality card ahead.

There are a pair of Group Two contests to look forward to and host Kate Tracey was joined by regular sidekicks Declan Rix and Sam Boswell to preview the Temple Stakes and the Sandy Lane, as well as a hugely competitive Silver Bowl.

Night Raider roared back to winning ways in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month for Karl Burke and takes on many of the same rivals again.

"I'm with Night Raider here at 5/1. I think his recent gelding operation has really improved him and potentially we could see even more from him here.

"It was a really impressive performance from him last time out.

"He just has so much pace and was several lengths clear approaching the final furlong. He dictated the race.

"For beating my tip Rumstar last time, he owes me one!"

"I'm going to be cheeky and have two darts at this. Pace is key here because there is a mountain of it in this race.

"This division is crying out for new blood and Jakajaro is potentially that horse. He has turned inside out since coming back from America, looking like he's improved again from four to five.

"His two wins this year at York and Newmarket were done really well, he's got serious early speed. I think he's got the pace to lead this field, so I'll take him.

"But, I also want a hold-up horse because there's every chance we get a pace collapse. With that in mind, I'm going to take the William Haggas-trained First Instinct."

"Part of me is desperate that we get some consistency in the five-furlong division.

"I looked through this race and thought: 'Why am I trying to get Night Raider beat?'

"I was at Newmarket and so impressed with his effort. Karl Burke said after that the horse had grown up a bit.

"I know Karl has said he'll walk the track but I think the ground will be okay.

"There are others in here you can certainly make cases for but I'm really hopeful that at this level, Night Raider can continue his upwards trajectory."
